Bio and Contact
Hi there! I’m Charis, and I love art-making, storytelling in its various forms - film, gaming, literature, to name a few - and science.
I believe stories can, and do, change the world. They connect us, hold a mirror to our lives, and show us what’s possible. It’d be a honor to tell those sorts of stories using what I know of making pictures.

Art Rundown
Primary areas: Editorial illustration, game art.
Media: India ink & nibs, digital painting, papercutting. Sometimes chocolate and tomato sauce.
Work published in: Scientific Malaysian magazine, Clerestory journal, Watershed magazine, The College Hill Independent newspaper, VISIONS magazine, The Catalyst magazine.
Stuff I’ve worked on:
- Visual Storytelling Workshops at the Brown Science Center. These are accessible sessions for anyone interested in using visual media to tell stories, and were born out of a desire to do something about Brown’s lack of application-based, none-fine-artsy art classes.
- Virion - an educational game on immunology, targeted at high school students. This won the 2010-2011 Hidden Agenda/ Zynga Facebook game competition.
- Project What’s After SPM - compilation of stories of what people did with their lives after the end of mandatory schooling in Malaysia. It is currently retailing in MPH bookstores. You can read my contribution to the book, published in The Star, or listen to a radio interview by BFM89.9 with two other team members and me.
